Ft. Thomas Group Session Recaps

January 2018 Session Recap

We started 2018 right by learning how to make pillowcases last night at the Ft. Thomas session of Ronald McDonald House Comfort Quilters. Brenda and Rebecca told us to stop whining and get them done. So we did. We turned some of the wonderful fabric the Newport Central Catholic High School cheerleaders donated into 13 pillowcases last night with more on the way. I forgot to take pictures of them, but trust me, they are wonderful.

I also finished up some of the ouch buddies the cheerleaders had started and turned in 68 of those adorable things, bringing our total over 1,000 since we started!

Several months ago, JoAnn dropped off about 40 quilt tops and backs that she had gotten for our group to quilt. They have been trickling in every month. Here are some of the quilts that we finished:

We had also received a donation from Heather’s Mom’s quilt guild which had a BUNCH of wonderful fabric as well as some random blocks. Heather used some of her own too and turned them into these adorable quilts:

We had some pretty quilts made with your standard size blocks and strips:

And some made with the 10″ block and four patch. These are fast and classic:

I made this one with a fabric line called “It’s a Pond Party” by Desiree’s Designs for Quilting Treasures I had gotten from Fabric Shack in Waynesville, Ohio. If you haven’t been up there, GO!

Here are the last of the 7 scrappy Mod Owls quilt tops I made as I learned how to use the Quick Curve Ruler from Sew Kind of Wonderful. I was so nervous to sew curves but this tool (along with Mom’s help) makes it so easy! I highly recommend it and the patterns they have are super fun.

Lastly, Mom quilted another of these adorable hexagon I Spy panels. They are so cute and fun, surely to keep a little one busy exploring:

That’s it for this month. We have reached 90% of our goal of 250 for the year with 4 months to go, so I think it’s safe to say we should exceed it. Check out our progress here.

Being a part of this group of ladies who love to help others is such a joy. Here’s to a great new year!
