Ft. Thomas Group Session Recaps

July 2017 Session Recap

We had a Christmas in July session last night with a small group of ladies. Although small, we were mighty! 20 quilts were turned in, all very beautiful. This brings our group lifetime total to 499! Whoa. My OCD is dying to add a quilt….

Rebecca showed everyone how easy the magic stocking pattern is and encouraged everyone to be as crazy as can be with the stockings for the House. These stockings go to EVERYONE in the House during Christmas: parents, siblings, babies, teens. These guests are from all over the world, so having many variations of stockings is wonderful. No rules on these either! What a great way to involve kids in a project too. Bust out your glitter glue and dust off your bedazzler – have some fun with these!

Brenda brought her Mary Poppins bag (as Heather called it) and pulled out 9 quilts she made! Yikes! It’s so great to see her creativity shining through week after week. You have to click on the pics to check them out:

She also went above and beyond on the present block I asked everyone to make for our next community quilt. She had so much fun and made so many blocks, she just went ahead a knocked out a couple quilts too:

Millie and I assembled and quilted some of the heart blocks that were turned in over the last couple months for our community quilts. They turned out so good!

Virginia found the cutest little dog panel in her stash and used a really fun colored variegated thread to outline it. The toes are so cute!

Millie, Virginia and Heather also turned in some quilts from kits:

We had some tops turned in that I quilted:

I FINALLY finished my RMH version of Sew Fresh Quilt’s Elephant Parade. This pattern is so cute and you can make so many adorable variations.

And lastly, I finally confronted my fear of curves at the last quilt camp. My Mom has made some gorgeous quilts using Sew Kind of Wonderful‘s Quick Curve Ruler, so I bought both sizes and a few patterns and decided to make it happen (especially since Mom was there to help). You MUST check out this ruler and these awesome patterns. Watch the videos. They make it look easy…because it is! I couldn’t believe it!

I first tried the Metro Scope pattern because I loved the large 18″ block size. I thought it would be perfect for a RMH quilt, so I grabbed a few Christmas fat quarters and went for it. It turned out so well!

Then I dug into my scraps and made a ton of little Mod Owls. This is the first of about 7-8 scrappy owl quilts that I’ll be making for RMH:

Well, that’s all of them. What a great session! It’s so great to have everyone working together on these community quilts and inspiring each other and sharing techniques. I love it! Thank you ladies! See you in August 🙂

  1. Emily – What a great recap – I hope to get a chance to sew some soon. I just love the crazy colored scrappy quilt from your kit, and all your beautiful amazing quilts.

Wow – I can’t believe that Lisa is leaving RMH. Shocker! I hope this doesn’t effect the Comfort Quilt program.

Thanks for supporting the stocking program. I always worry about people embracing making stockings. You made it sound so much fun in your recap letter 🙂 *(bedazzler – just when I thought I was the only one who loved them).

*CONGRATULATIONS* (again) I am so excited for you. – Rebecca
